1. Do I need to place a deposit?
It is entirely up to you. Placing a deposit assures you a pick from my current & upcoming litters. It is a non-refundable deposit. You will be contacted when it is time to pick out your puppy, which is at 6 weeks of age.
We require a $500 deposit and cannot hold a puppy until we receive a deposit. We will allow three business days to receive the deposit if you are mailing it — if you think it will take longer to get here, please let us know so we do not think you have changed your mind.
2. If I am the 3rd person to give you a deposit for a pup, do I get 3rd choice?
Yes, basically the 3rd person to give a deposit would be 3rd in line for choice on a litter. But, the first person isn’t guaranteed “pick of the litter.” We always reserve the right to pick of the litter. For example, we might want to keep a pup. We also try to match up puppies with their new families. Remember, your first pick isn’t necessarily another family’s. Every family is looking for a puppy that fits their preferences and may not be yours.
3. Do you ship puppies and if so, what age?
No, we no longer ship puppies. We enjoy meeting the families in person when getting their puppy.
4 Do you have other options for getting puppy besides shipping?
Meeting at DFW
Yes. We travel to Dallas to meet families, whether driving or flying. We meet many families that fly in from all over the country at DFW. We coordinate flight times and meet at the ticket counter for the family’s return flight. American Airlines is the only airline right now that is in cabin pet friendly. You do have to make a reservation for the puppy for flying home. You will need this type of carrier for traveling: https://wisteriagoldens.com/petcarriers
Some families will fly in the night before, spend the night, and then fly home with their puppy the next morning to allow them time with the puppy before traveling home. We leave it up to the family to do what works best for them.
We do charge a $125 delivery fee for meeting families in Dallas.
Delivery/Meeting/Pickup
Depending on where puppies are going in the litter, we will work with families on options for meeting to get their puppy. We charge a delivery fee for travel based on mileage and how many families we are meeting.
Please note, American Airlines is the best option for traveling with the puppy in the cabin of the plane. Delta and United Airlines require the puppy to be 10 weeks old. The weight limit is 20 lbs in the cabin and the puppies generally will not meet this requirement.
5. Do you guarantee your dogs?
Yes. Every puppy comes with a health guarantee…See Contract page. All of our adult dogs are screened for genetic defects. We will not breed a dog that is not breed standard and premium quality. If the new owner suspects their puppy has a problem, they should take the dog to their vet. If it is found to have a genetic defect, the owner must present us with the Vet certificate, stating the problem. (See Contract page) We then will take the puppy to our Vet for a second opinion. The owner pays all vet costs. If the diagnosis is the same from both Vets, you return the puppy and registration. We will then replace the puppy within the guidelines of the contract.
6. Extended Guarantee:
We recommend these Premium Quality Dog Foods. If you continue with our Approved Dog Foods and Wellness supplements, and order through our website www.healthypetslongerlife.com, so that we can track your use for 3 years, we will extend our warranty on the hips for 2 years. (Giving a total hip guarantee of 3 years).
7. Breeding Rights?
We ONLY sell our puppies on AKC Limited Registration.
8. Do you think I should crate my puppy at night?
Yes, we believe puppies should be crated a night. If a pup is allowed free access in your home, or even a room at night he will get into trouble. The biggest problems are soiling in the house and chewing things he’s not supposed to. A young pup needs a safe place that is for them alone. Most puppies will not soil in their crate. If a puppy has a large enough area they will wake up and pee somewhere and then go back to sleep somewhere else. A puppy doesn’t like to soil its own sleeping area because it needs to sleep there. It is more difficult to house break a puppy that doesn’t have a crate than a pup that does have a crate. Also, the puppy would be safer at night in a crate. There are possibilities of the puppy chewing on electrical cords, falling down steps, getting into the garbage, or chemicals kept under the kitchen sink.
9. How much are your puppies? Are they AKC registered?
Our puppies are all AKC registered and priced as follows:
Puppies not enrolled in our training program are $3,495. They are all full-blooded Golden Retriever puppies and are only sold on AKC Limited Registration.
Puppies in our training program vary and can be found here: Available Trained Puppies
* Please note: Any puppy picked up or bought in the State of Arkansas will be charged 7.5% sales tax.
10. How can I pay for my puppy?
We accept money orders, cashier’s checks, cash, PayPal, and credit cards payments. We no longer accept personal checks ** Please note: Any puppy picked up or bought in the State of Arkansas will be charged 7.5% sales tax.
11. How often should I feed my puppy?
Most puppies should be fed three times a day, until they are about 4 to 6 months old. Then change it to twice a day. Our puppies feeding times are 7 am, 12 noon, and 5 pm. It is harder to house break a puppy that always has access to a full food bowl.
12. How do I house break my puppy?
First of all, realize that a puppy’s body is not mature enough for muscle control of its bladder until it is 4 to 6 months of age (and sometimes longer.) Bowel control is usually faster. Tips and tricks: PATIENCE, CONSISTENCY, AND ROUTINE! All puppies need their own secure sleeping area. (Crate) A puppy usually will not void or defecate in their sleeping area. Do not give a puppy food or water past 7 p.m. No food after 6 p.m. Obviously, this time can be adjusted if it is very hot or the puppy has had a big play time. This gives the puppy plenty of opportunity to be able to go to bed with an empty bladder. Keep the puppy in site at all times! After 20 minutes let the puppy outside and give the command, for example “go potty.”
Take puppy outside:
• As soon as a puppy wakes up.
• Right after a puppy eats or drinks.
• After 20 minutes of playtime.
It doesn’t take long for a puppy to learn. Make a schedule for “potty time,” playtime, eating, etc. When you take the puppy outside always tell him “Outside.” He then learns the command. If you catch a puppy in the act of having an accident in the house, pick him up mid-stream and say “no” in with a firm tone. NEVER hit a puppy or rub a puppy’s nose in his own mess. This does not teach the puppy anything good or positive. Remember to watch your puppy closely and recognize the “need” for him to go outside.
FYI
For Your Information:
- Puppies are being raised on Life’s Abundance & NuVet (food, supplements, treats). Feeding your puppy anything but premium quality dog food will affect his growth. Studies have shown that food quality contributes to developing joint issues, including hip dysplasia. It is not all genetics. We ensure our puppies get a healthy start by feeding them quality food and vitamins.
- Our puppies are vaccinated at six weeks with Neo-Par (a parvo vaccine) and Nobivac 1-DAPPv at 7, 10, & 14 weeks. We follow our vet’s recommendations. Many vets recommend different schedules for vaccines. Please check with your vet for continued boosters and vaccines that are required in your area and recommended by your vet. We also worm our puppies at two weeks intervals.
- The English Cream Golden is a very gentle, loving, affectionate animal, and it is important that you train accordingly. They must have a routine and consistency for them to learn where to use the bathroom, eat, sleep, etc.
- Puppies should always have something to chew on and several toys of their own. Never take away something without replacing it with something they can have. Goldens love their toys!
